Sigh. Here’s a predictable mini-rant about something dumb because I have no one to talk to about these things.

So ‘Elementry’ is actually for real on the CBS fall schedule. Because apparently the network feels people want another, more flawed and less compelling show about a modern day Sherlock Holmes. Okay fine, I know I haven’t seen it yet but there is just no chance that a New York-based Sherlock who has Lucy Liu as his “Watson” is going to live up to a Sherlock written by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss and acted by Benedict Cumberbatch alongside a Martin Freeman-y Watson. Plus, talent and setting aside, the 22-episode model versus the 3 tv movie model is just setting them up to be the sloppy, embarrassing younger cousin of a superbly executed show run by people who have been passionate about the source material their entire lives.

So. Have fun with that, everyone involved.

The saddest part is that this show will probably rate on CBS and will be around forever and there will be a billion shitty episodes of this thing floating around when we have to wait like two years for four and a half hours of the good one. Why do I like this stuff again? Let’s all just look at those picture of Benedict with the hands on his face some more…

(P.S. I recently read that one of the main reasons Bill Murray didn’t do Charlie’s Angels 2 was because he did not get along with Lucy Liu at all. And it’s like, girl, Bill Murray doesn’t like you as a person so I probably can’t like you ever again. Stop being Watson.)
